I have a 1989 Chevy Blazer 1500 5.7 (full size). On my way to work today I was going up a hill. I had to stop for a crosswalk, as I began to press the gas my truck started vibrating like the engine was about to die. I also heard a sound like metal grinding (like when you start your car when its already on, but not as vicious) for a short second, something I have never heard before and haven't heard since.
It seems to be taking longer to get into gear when entering the freeway or moving from a stand still as well. Sometimes there are vibrations as I am applying pressure to the gas while in motion and other times when taking off from a stand still. When switching from first to second gear, the transmission used to go pretty quickly, now it kind of revs up before going all the way into gear.
I just had my exhaust re-done, afterwards my check engine light came on, I took it back to the shop that installed my exhaust. They said I had a bad oxygen sensor and replaced it (so they say). I'm wondering if this is an issue with my transmission, or if maybe my timing is off? In the past I had to replace my transmission because a gear went out which the shop said was due to timing and old age. I’m not sure if that is a lie.
Any information you can supply me with before I go to a shop sure would help.
Also, so I don't get raped by another shop. Can you tell me what I should ask for when I take my truck in? I know very little about repairs. Should I ask to have my transmission flushed, looked at, tuned up? Should I ask to have the timing checked, re-calibrated?
How much would I be looking at spending for the repairs.
Thanks,
Zombiejon
