What are the chances that a brand new oil pump would lose pressure almost to zero when idling yet works fine with more rpms just after replacement for the same problem from an old pump? Is that possible? Can the relief valve be stuck? Is there another cause? I'm trying to get another pump right now.

Hi there,

Thank you for the donation,

I would be checking out the pressure relief valve, make sure it moves freely , there is no muck in the valve and the spring is not damaged, start here.
