1961 Chevy Bel Air Fuel pick-up problem

1961 Chevy Bel Air V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic

My Boss has a 1957 Chevy Bel Air. He has had fuel pressure to the carb problems since he got it. We have put a new pump on it and now it will not pick-up any fuel at all. We have removed and confirmed the pump is working and installed correctly. Do we need to prime the fuel line to the pump from the tank? Would a small leak in the line from the tank cause a pick-up issue?

welcome to the forum, mechanical pump? Sometimes I blow air into the supply line, to make sure it isn't clogged. If I can't blow air through the line and hear or feel bubbles in the tank, I hunt for a clog in the line somewhere, maybe the sock in the tank??

Thanks jdl123. Yes it is a mechanical pump. He put a new fuel tank in it about 6 months ago and said the float and pick-up sock were in great looking condition. I'll check for any clogs in the line.
