2006 Chevy Avalanche make rattling noise from left rear axl

Dealer said could be accuattor gear for abs in left rear inside rear axle complete teardown of axle 300 just to start.noise comes and goes as you are driving.Also when cold out service 4wd drive light.won't shift into 2wd.Shift into 4wd low by itself,only when cold out.

They may be right, but that shouldn't affect the 4wd. The 4wd sounds like an actuator that may be shorting.
