i locked the tailgate on my truck. it will not unlock. I can turn the key back from horizontal to verticle and remove it but the latch still freewheels in the locked mode. It clicks like it doesn't ingage the locking mechanism fully and trips over it. I have sprayed wd40 in to the mechanism.
I have tried to bang the outside edges of the tailgate to see of it might not be fully latched. i crawled up inside to see if i could remove the last cover panel to get to the inside of the tailgate and the screws holding the lock, but the cover is made so it won't come off from the inside.
What else can I try so I can use my tailgate again. Can the lock be removed from the inside while the gate is up and the cover is still on?
