Engine Performance problem
2004 Chevy Avalanche V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic

The oil pressure gauge started running up to 80 this past weekend. I didn't do anything differently to have caused this. It normally stays at or slightly above 40. I noticed the oil was a little low, so I added some (not much). It's still running close to 80 while on the highway. What could have caused the change and is it dangerous to drive?

Is there any type of engine knocking noises if not. Check the oil pressure with a mechanical gauge,if normal replace the oil pressure switch still abnormal could mean the oil pump pressure relief valve is not opening
