2002 Chevy Avalanche Engine revs when shifting between gear

When taking off the engine revs when shifting between 1st and 2nd and also 2nd and 3rd. If you are taking off fast it won't shift until you let up. The check engine light will come if it red lines. After a day the lights goes off. If you take off slow everything works great. This is the origanal Trany.. Thanks for any help.
