oil consuption or burning

i have got a 1991 chevy astro van. 196 thousand miles. a 4.3 liter. i have a problem with oil burning. the problem is more than likely the rings around the pistons are worn out causing oil to enter the combustion chamber, which then will burn the oil up. the only fix for that is an engine overhaul, or replace the motor. hope the info helps and good luck
