2003 Chevy Astro brake pedal noise

It does sound like the ABS is kicking in. Check all sensors. Something is telling me that one of the stators is dirty and causing a sensor to kick in because it thinks the wheel locked up.

Can I clean the stator(s) are they eaisly accessible or WHERE ARE THEY?

THe stator is an start like item that will be located right infront of the sensor. When the tire spins, the sensor (magnut) identifies a small electrical signal because the stator is close to the sensor then there is a slight break. When a magnetic field is broken then received over and over, it creates an electrical current. WHen the wheel locks, the current stops and the ABS identifies that lose and releases pressure to that wheel. Regardless, yes you can clean it and it is right next to the sensor.

Sorry, im a dope...where is the sensor for the stator....near the brake pad?, near the calipers, on the inside or outside the tire/wheel rim...are there sensors for all four wheels...see ! Im a real dope!...also What does it look like! Do i just squirt water on it, do I rub it with a cloth or brush?
I can save a bundle of money if I just need to clean it/them

It is behind the backing plate at each wheel.

Let me know if you have other questions. You could even use something like brake cleaner if they have grease or dirt on them and then wipe them clean.

what if i just disconnect the sensors. the brakes woulkd still work, i assume.

The brakes will work but you will loose ABS.
