2002 Chevy Astro AC controls

In my 2002 Chevy Astro van. My AC will not blow out of the vents. It works great front and back I mean it gets really cold but will not blow out of the vents. The controls on the dashboard will not work. The High and low switch will only work for the first 3 but will not work on high. It will shut off. All controls work for the back. Its like the back air condition works ok. Also my rear heat will not work as well, It will blow cold air.

You have two different problems. First, try replacing the blower motor resister to fix the fan speed problem. As far as the vents, you have a vacuum leak. The vent doors are actuated by vacuum. If there is a leak, that is what happens. Check for leaks under the dash as well as under the hood. They get dry and crack. If you're lucky, with the engine running, you may hear a hissing sound.

Ok. Joe. I figured out the vents. That was easy. In fact I did it the same day I wrote the question. I took off the Dog House and on the left side of the engine on top of the intake manifold I found a valve with a little hose coming out and found it exactly as you said "all crack and dried". I replace it and had to plug another hose up. That other hose had no place to go. I look all over. When I plug it up all vents seem to be working. Now Joe the resistor in the blower motor. How do I fix that? Do I have to remove the blower motor?

I'm glad you got that taken care of. As far as the resister/ relay, it should be right on top of your heater core. It will have two 9/32 screws holding it in place. It sits behind a wiring harness that is to the right of the blower motor. Do me a favor, before purchasing the part, check the connections. Many times, the blower motor itself will be going bad, draw too many amps, and melt the plug going to the resister / relay. Make sure that didn't happen because it is around 50 dollars for the part. Thats a lot if you don't need it.
