Hi, My local mechanic looked at my 2001 Chevy Astro V6 passenger van which wouldn't start, and told me that he can't fix. He says he tried 3 starters and each wore out. He took me underneath and showed me the exposed flywheel, and said that it was being worn (there were some filings present. He also shower me a where a piece of metal which had broken away where the starter is bolted to the Block (i think he said)
He said he was able to start the engine each time with the starters, but it would cut out when he tried to move it. His accessment of the problem is that replacing the engine is the only option. I'm wondering if anybody has any ideas, or if there's somewhere around San Francisco I could take it that might be able to fix it. The engine only has 25,000 original miles. Thanks, Sean.

It has abroken starter flange. the only way i have been able to repair is to weld some sort of stud in the place of the bolt. I hope this helps.
