My husband has a 2000 Astro Van, AWD, V6 Vortex Engine..
His problem is the van has a problem starting if it rains or there is percipitaiton..He's replaced the distributor cap, rotor, wires, plugs, ignition module, 2 Oxygen senors, air filter, PVC valve..The van runs great when it is sunny out..Wet weather - forget it.

I have seen this problem several times before (even me). Mam, I have had 4 Astro's. I drive one every day 1,000 miles a week to service calls. I drive a 1999 today and it turned over 200,000 miles today. These vehicles have TREMENDOUSLY high ignition voltage. That means that this high voltage is continuously looking for a path to ground and it is relentless and neverending. You cannot buy cheap, junk ignition replacement products for this engine.

I have had problems with NEW ignition wires, distributor cap, and spark plugs. You can't get by with the cheap parts. I did a new tune up with all new parts and had problems.

By NAME brand parts like Autolite ignition wires, Autolite Double Platinum plugs, Sorensen ignition coil. I use ONLY Autolite Double Platinum plugs in all my vehicles regardless of make.

On an Astro, make sure that your coil wire is suspended in air and does not lean against an engine crossmember (doesn't touch anything metal). I wrap my new coil wire with 3/8 inch spiral band and then cover the whole thing with 1/2 inch split loom for added protection. This is not expensive to do. Ask Radio Shack or any electronic supply store what these things are.

Damp weather problems are the distributor cap, rotor, ignition wires EVERY TIME with an Astro.
