I changed the distributor. I'm not sure I got it back in the exact right position. I am unsure of how to check or change this. Any advice?

Hello,
Here is what you will need to do....
Disconnect the coil from power
Pull the #1 plug out you will then need to get the Piston to Top Dead Center(TDC) on the Compression Stroke.
Once there pull cap off distributor and make sure the rotor is pointing at the #1 plug tower on the distributor. If it is then is should be in right.
If you are have running problems double check you firing order.

How do i get to TDC on the compression stroke? Is there a visible mark? If it's not pointing to the #1 plug do I pull the distributor and reseat it?

Sorry forgot to add that info....
to make it easy if you can are not affraid to do it(some people are) place your finger in the plug hole and have someone just bump the engine over till you feel air force past your finger. then with a long norrow screw driver or a strong metal rode about 14 inches long, stick it down into the hole it shouldn't go in but about 2 inches or so. then hold the rod or screwdriver so it won't move, then have the person bump the engine again if screw driver pushes up bump it again if goes up and then starts down then you are most likely at TDC. if when you first bump it over and it goes down you will need to bump it over again till air forces past and repeat until you get the above action.
If it is not pointing in the area of the #1 plug tower then yes you will need to pull distributor again and reset it.

you can also use the mark on the harmonic balancer but any way u do it it could be off 180 degrees but the distributer is easy enough to ge to and if it is off turn crank so you get to mark again and you should be all set
