1992 Chevy Astro Engine hot wont start

The egr would cause driveability problems when it is running. Has the check engine light come on? Also, when it won't start, are you able to check for spark and fuel to the engine?

The van sat for 2 years when I bought it, and after the engine ran for 1/2 hour or so, check engine light came on. a scan said EGR valve. After I ran another full tank of gas the light didn't come on. But the engine wouldn't start after driving for any long period of time. The next morning it would start right up. The first time I would turn the key shortly after it ran for awhile, it would almost start. I am sure that it had spark. Some one said the EGR valve could stick from carbon build up.. Would this creat a vapor lock? Is there a sencer that will not let the engine turn over? I am sorry I have alot of questions. Scott...

Scott, don't worry about the questions. That is why I am here. As far as the EGR, it won't cause a vapor lock, but rather a vacuum leak. Did you replace it? It is possble that it is stuck open or shut from sitting. And yes, this could cause a starting problem when warm. Have you had the computer scanned since the first time? Most parts stores will do it for free.
