1986 Chevy Astro trying tighten sterring column

Steering problem
1986 Chevy Astro 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic
----------------------------------------------------------------
My steering column is very loose I have the steering whelel off but cannot get to the bolts to tighten them,
How do the internal threaded pins come out so that I can get down to the bolts to tighten them?

Is there a parts breakdown of the steerinig column on line?

do you mean your tilt wheel is loose? if you pull out the turn signal switch a little you should be able to get too two of them, other wise you need a pin puller to remove it down to the screws, the 2 pins are on the side

Is the pin puller s special tool for Chevy or is it a common tool that I can buy.
If I pull the pins, will the large spring take off like a rocket or is there a means of containing it.

if you buy a complete sterring wheel puller it should come with it

that little pin puller breaks easy, thoes pins are tuff sometimes

to get at it you have to have a spring compressor (also in the complete kit ) there is a snap ring that holds it down, then you can pull out everything. first pull the wheel then use the compressor to get at the snap ring set everything in order as you take it out, to get the turn signal switch out you need to go under dash to unplug it and remove the 3 screws and for the turn lever it just pushes in and turns to pull it out ( dont break it), then the ign switch use a pair of needle nose plyers to pull it out the key buzzer, then looking in the same place as the buzzer theres a little hole with a tab, push it up and the key switch should come out its also hard sometimes, remove the plastic cowl then you can see on the side the 2 pins that need taken out to get at all 3 screws sorry right now I can't get you a pic, if you can get a hold of razamataz he might do it for you

Thanks Buzz that did it, could not find the steering puller kit locally but was able to compress spring and remove the plastic housing,,,I use a bolt and 1/2 in socket to pull the pins Two of to bolts were completely loose and one just snug and the last one mildly tight. With the help of a wobble extension I remove the all,cleaned them all and reinstalled with Loc-tite.
I really appreciate the quick response
