Truck was driven over railroad tracks, started missing. Then the engine smoothed up. Later in the day, I test the truck. When the temperature leveled out at normal operating temperature, truck started missing/cutting out like hitting the rev limiter, but at ,2800- 3,000 RPMs. If easing on the throttle it was smooth up to about 2,800 hundred RPMs. After the truck cooled and sat all night, it wouldn't start this morning. In the picture you can see black wire that was worn to cooper, it had feel on top of the engine and wore/ melted. I taped the wire and zip tied away from engine to reduce any contact. Still wouldn't start.

Hi,

Was the check engine light staying on or flashing with the engine running before it wouldn't start?

When something like this happens, it is usually either fuel-related or ignition-related. What we need to do is determine which is the problem.

Here is what I want you to try. See if the engine starts for a couple of seconds using starting fluid. If it does, then we know it's fuel-related. If it doesn't, then it's likely ignition-related and we need to check for spark.

Here is a link that shows how to test for ignition spark.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-test-an-ignition-system

Also, here is a link that covers a crank with no start condition. Take a look through it and let me know if anything in it helps.

I will watch for your reply.

Take care,

Joe

The engine light was on solid, until I kept Erving the engine and driving, at one point it started blinking. I think it’s in one of the videos I attached.

I went out turned the key a few times to check if the fuel pump was making a noise. The truck started for a second or so. Then I did the same again and the engine ran for a few seconds. So, it starts 2 out of 9 attempts but didn’t run long. I’ll get some starter fluid and try.

Thanks for the help, much appreciated

Hi,

Let me know about the starting fluid. Also, did you attach videos? I am unable to find them. The flashing engine light indicates a cylinder misfire, which can result from several things. Let me know if the computer was scanned for codes. If it was, let me know the codes.

Let me know.
