Subtle misfire and a warning:Check Vehicle Stability Control System

So, my dad took his car to Valvoline to get an oil change. After pulling out, he noticed it had a subtle misfire and a warning came on the dash: Check Vehicle Stability Control System. I plugged in my little blue driver obd2 scanner, and the codes read as follows:

P0171 1 confirmed, 1 pending, 1 permanent.(System Too Lean Bank 1)

C1201 1 Electronic-Controlled Power Steering Code. Status: Current/History.

U0100 1 Air Conditioner code Status: Current/History. Lost Communication with ecm/pcm"A"

3 Engine Codes:
P0171, P1605, P1604

B2312(D-Door Motor Code)

B2312(1 RR-Door Motor Code)

Did Valvoline sabotage the car or something, lol? This is so random. Any advice would be much appreciated. I'm no expert, but always willing to tinker.

Hi,

Since he noticed a slight misfire and then the light came on, I suspect the problem is related to the P0171. A lean fuel mixture will cause that. Chances are they left a vacuum hose off, didn't properly attach the air box / air intake between the throttle body and air filter box or something else that has created the leak. If unmetered air is getting into the combustion chamber, the result will be a lean mixture.

Bro! Thank you so much. You are a blessing. Opened the hood, and there it was staring me in the face. A vacuum hose that looks like it went into the air filter area was totally off. Hooked it back up. Turned the car on, the VSC warning was still on, but drove it once around the block, and it went away. Check engine light is still on nevertheless, but I'm hoping it will go off after he goes to work tomorrow. If not, will let you know, but thanks again my friend!!

You are very welcome. I had a feeling that is what happened. As far as the check engine light, it will eventually go off, but it may take a little time. Other than waiting, if you have or know someone with a scanner, just erase the codes and it will be gone. (actually you have a blue driver) I just remembered that. You can clear the codes with it. ( is that the one that is blue tooth with your phone? ) If so, it should do this for you.

Now, tell the Valvoline shop they caused you a problem by doing this. Hopefully, they will not charge you for the next service. LOL
