"Check hybrid system" warning related to tire pressure

Hi, I keep getting a "check hybrid system" warning on my car, but it keeps going off, so I can't take it in for diagnostics. The last two times it came on, it was preceded by a "low tire-pressure" warning light. My tires aren't holding pressure, and my fuel economy is suffering because of it.

But my question is: Could low tire pressure and the resulting lower MPG be causing the "Check hybrid system" warning to come on?

Hi,

Certainly, low tire pressure can cause a decreased fuel economy. I don't think it is related to the hybrid system.

Although the light goes off, I would still recommend having the computer scanned. If there was a code set, there should be a pending code stored.

Because of the vehicle year and type, I would suggest having the can-bus scanned. CAN stands for controller area network. Basically, all the different computers/modules are tied together via a few wires. This type of scan will identify codes regardless of the module storing them. Here is a link showing how it's done:

Please keep in mind that the warning you get can be the result of several things. For example, an overheating battery system can cause it.
