Check engine light came on for my 2015 Jeep Wrangler (45K)MI. The engine light was flashing so I had it towed to the Jeep dealer. The diagnostic came back to replace the Upper timing Cover gasket as it was leaking from multiple spots according to the dealer.

I was quoted a price of $3200 ($1K -Parts) and (2,200-Labor). I live in California so the labor cost is likely higher then the average state but I want to know if this price too high since I went to the dealer or realistic?

I appreciate your response . Thanks

With 45 k on it is should be covered under warranty. Also, what code is it? I would not agree to that cost without knowing what the code number is it, this guide can help you find the code number.

Hi Ken, yes but I have had the car for 10 years so it falls outside the normal 5 year/50,0000 warranty. Normally its whatever comes first of the two i believe.

The codes were P0303, and P0203. I was quoted $1K for the fuel injector work and another $3,200 for upper timing cover gasket. Let me know if you have any questions and/or follow up. I appreciate your help.

O sorry I saw the 2025 in the year from the post. So with these codes you just need the fuel injector replaced or it is unplugged.

P0303 - Cylinder 3 Misfire Detected
P0203 - Injector Circuit/Open - Cylinder 3

The upper timing chain cover must be leaking and has nothing to do with the engine codes or how it runs, can I ask if you see oil drip on the ground where you park the car? If not I would let it go and just watch the oil level. Unless it is leaking too much then it much be fixed, sometimes a dealer will see a "seep" and call it a leak FYI.

To replace the fuel injector you must remove the fuel rail, check out the images (below). Please upload pictures or videos in your response so I can see how bad the problem is.

Thanks Ken, I appreciate your insight and for submitting the detail. Do you think the $1K price is a good quote to fix the fuel injectors?

That is a nice Jeep, what you are looking at is not oil leaking, can you raise the hood and take an image of the front of the engine and serpentine belt area? For the 1k are they doing all of the injectors or just one? If just one yes, that is too much money. The cost for one fuel injector is:

Fuel Injector (OEM or OE-quality) $70 - $150
Labor (1.5 to 2.0 hours @ $90-$150/hr) $135 - $300
Shop Supplies / Fees (if applicable) $10 - $30
Total Estimated Cost $215 - $480

Thanks Ken! I really appreciate your insight. To answer your question, the vehicle is at the dealer right now. I am assessing if I want the work done. I can request they take an image of the engine and serpentine belt but I may get push back.

I am probably leaning towards having them hold off on the upper timing gasket so I can vet more quotes and for now get the fuel injectors done if the price is accurate. My only concern is how big is the leak for the upper timing gasket and how long I could drive on it. Ideally I want to get it done asap if that's the issue.

For the fuel injectors , how many are there normally on a jeep?

Thanks
Steven

Hello Steven,

Yes there are 6 fuel injectors for your car engine. I think it is a good idea to look at the leak yourself to see how bad it is, like I say the dealer will consider a "seep" a leak which I would let go. Upload images when you can, the dealer should not get upset at this request.

The leak from the timing cover is oil and I have attached some pictures"

Hmm,, the labor on the high side is $300.00 for the fuel injector, I would take it to a shop that is good in town, I would check google reviews of the shop first. The oil leak must not be bad because I cant even see it? Lol some dealers are this way, they have a lot of mouths to feed. I would take the Jeep somewhere else.

Thanks Ken, that is what I am leaning towards just going to another shop, although I have to pay the dealer a fee for the diagnostic :(
