Went to premier oil July 16th for a oil change. Noticed a week ago last week in September car was running rough, check engine light came on and I took my car into local mechanic and there was no oil in my car, not even on the oil stick. The local mechanic did a oil change, but now there a ticking sound coming from the front right passenger side of my car.

Good morning.

The ticking may be a valve lifter that may be stuck. There are additives for this at a parts store.

What was the code that was set fr the check engine light? That will be the clue as to why it is running rough.

This is the ticking sound from my car. How can my car go through five quarts in two months? I went to a Premier oil drive through for a oil change July 16 and by the last week of September there is no oil in my car? And no leaks?

That is a major engine issue. It sounds like the lower end of the engine such as a failed bearing.

The only one who can answer this question is the second mechanic. Did he tell you there was no oil in the car? Just because it is not on the stick does not mean it has no oil. The stick will not show below one and half quarts.

Did you check the oil level now? The second guy changed the oil as well.

No, if they did not put oil in the car, it would not have lasted more than five minutes without locking up.

The Engine Computer constantly runs tests on numerous systems and sensors and will set a diagnostic fault code when it detects a problem. There are well over 2000 potential fault codes and none of them refer to coolant level. About half of those fault codes result in the Check Engine light turning on. Those are the ones that refer to something that could adversely affect emissions.

Lets start by getting the codes here is a guide.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/checking-a-service-engine-soon-or-check-engine-light-on-or-flashing

The place to start is by having the codes read and recorded. They will indicate the circuit or system that needs further diagnosis, or the unacceptable operating condition. Many auto parts stores will read engine codes for you for free. Remember those codes never say to replace parts or that one is bad.

Hello,

The system is monitoring the EVAP portion of the fuel system and it is assuming you have a leak int he inlet of the tank. This can be becasue of the rubber hose that connects the two. Please use a flashlight and check for a tare in the hose.

Please let us know what happens.

could be many many things causing this, this is why a scanner is a mechanics best friend , it will narrow the possibilities tremendously. first thing that is done if you cannot scan it ,is to check for fuel and spark. its usually one of these two components that are missing during a no start condition, some possibilities are crank sensor, torque convertor, fuel pump, fuel filter, ignition module , catalytic converter, almost too many to list. a scanner is needed. if I had the codes I could diagnose the problem

my check engine light is on? on the 23rd of Feb I had a remote car starter put in that was all fine on the 4th of March my truck wouldn't start at all, I had inter and exterior lights all working I called the dealer and said to bring it in, so I did on the 6th I got it back they said there was lose wires under the truck that must of touched and caused the ignition fuse to short, I took my vehicle home and tried the car starter out to see if it was ok due to the fuse shorting it didn't start with the remote I took it to where I got it installed and they said bring it in the next day and they'll bring it inside and make sure everything was ok, well I did so they came and asked me what was done but my light is still on?

If the check engine light is on, have the computer scanned to identify trouble codes. Most parts stores will do it for free. Once you get the codes, then you will know where the problem is coming from.

A list of the problems you're having or the things that aren't working properly. Most used car dealers offer a 50 / 50 30 day warranty to help people out when things like this pop up unexpectedly so you might want to visit the dealer that sold you the vehicle.

Unfortunately all manufacturers have an insatiable need to hang a computer onto every part of their vehicles now, and that adds to the complexity and the number of things that can go wrong, especially electrical problems. They seem to think we're impressed with all this technology when in reality many of us just put up with it, but we sure don't appreciate it.

In particular, your mechanic is going to want a list of intermittent problems. You can't expect him to sit in your vehicle and assume he's going to know all of the problems you're having. Also, if he sees a problem and it's not on your list, he is likely to ignore it. Often customers don't want to spend the money to have some problems fixed so they don't include them on the list. They will get angry if the mechanic diagnoses them and repairs them anyway, then hands them a bill for something they didn't want looked at. That's why you can't expect them to fix things you don't put on the list.

Hi

If you decide you would like to conduct the scan yourself here is a link to an article that features written step by step instructions and pictures explaining how to do the scan yourself, also I have included a link to our YouTube channel with a how to video on code scanning. Most scanners are inexpensive to purchase, you can purchase one online from sites like Amazon.com

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/checking-a-service-engine-soon-or-check-engine-light-on-or-flashing

Once you have the codes please get back to us so that we can further assist you. We are always happy to help.

Thank you for visiting 2CarPros.com.

Kindest regards,

Service engine light came on. No other problems, fuel gauge works properly. Did the 3 cold starts as
noted in the owners manual. Light stayed on.

Dealer checked code and says it came back P0463. One possible cause is high sulfur content in fuel
according to their research.

Dealer wants to drop tank and replace fuel pump. Since everything else is fine I question if the fuel pump replacement is necessary. Would it hurt anything to
just keep on driving as is? Am I likely to find myself stranded somewhere? If sulfur is problem won't the new pump be effected as well?

I see no reason to replace the fuel pump. If there is a high sulfer content in the fuel (which I never heard of), a different pump isn't going to change that.

P0463 Fuel Level Sensor Circuit High Input

I feel you have an electrical issue and not a problem with high sulfer fuel. If the fuel level sensor circuit it getting more power than it should, how can that be the issue?

First of all thank you. The reason for "sulfur" answer
came from "ALLDATA". The dealer gave me a print out from them which suggests that the sulfur content causes an open or high resistance on the fuel sender card.

First you need to have the trouble codes pulled. Any Advance Auto or Auto Zone will do this for free. They will give you a set of codes that translate to problems with your car. They can clear the codes for you, but until the problems are resolved, the trouble light on the dash will return.
