Check engine light on, code P0700

Replaced engine, car runs great but have the check engine light on. I took it to a mechanic and scanner shows P0700 code. Replaced shift sensor, TCM and battery but still shows same codes. Now after all that when you shift from park to reverse if you do it just right it gets stuck in park but the dash says you are in reverse then flashes once and then turns to a park/reverse with a slash through it. Same from drive to third gear and back. It spent two weeks at a mechanic and it just seems to get worse. Other than that the car shifts and runs great. Can anyone steer me in the right direction?

P0700 means there is a transmission code in the TCM. It is not a true fault code, just a signal to tell you to scan the transmission for the true code.
There are multiple codes that can set the P0700 indicator. You need to use a scan tool that can read the transmission module for the actual code. Without knowing the code you could replace every part trying to clear the code.

It seems when you have the throttle barely pushed in the RPM's jump between 2,000-3,000 up and down until you throttle up. Then when the temperature reaches up to normal temperatures it goes back to normal. I switched out the throttle body thinking it was that but it still does it. I have had the check engine light on since I installed a new motor and it is giving me a PO700 code. I replaced the TCM, shift sensor, new transmission oil. I just do not know what else to do but to light a match to it. I am hoping someone out there can help me out I am tired of all the money I have spent and no luck. Thanks

Hello,

Can I ask if this problem directly after the new engine was installed? If so it sounds like one of the ground wires was left off or is not getting a good connection. Can you go over the wiring harness to makes sure all grounds are connected and in good shape?

The P0700 code is not a real code. It is a pointer code only. It means "Scan the TCM for the actual code, I am just a light to tell you the TCM has a code in it". You need to put a scan tool on it to see what code is actually stored in the TCM. It does not mean the TCM is faulty. It may be that the TCM you put in has the wrong tire size or gear ratio programmed in or that it is not seeing a speed sensor or that a power feed or ground is missing. But until you get the actual code(s) from the TCM and repair the issue that code will always be there.
