Catalytic converter

Thank you for such a fast and thorough response! I had my catalytic converter replaced last February and the check engine light came on with a code that the cat was having issues again. The garage I went to said it could be a different catalytic converter in my vehicle, other than the one they replaced. I didn't think it had more than one. I appreciate it!

Hi, just wanted to jump in real quick. There was a bulletin for a software update to correct the P0420. Here is the bulletin. Chances are the original catalytic converter may have been okay.

REVISION SUMMARY

SYMPTOM

The MIL is on, and DTC P0420 (catalyst system efficiency below threshold) is stored.

PROBABLE CAUSE

The ECM software misinterprets sensor inputs as a deteriorated catalytic converter.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Update the ECM software, and check the three-way catalytic converter.

WARRANTY CLAIM INFORMATION
