carburetor/choke valves

If you open the choke in the front or the butterfly, will it start?

You may have a bad choke pull off. You are allowing air into the system. The choke may be stuck closed causing a flooded condition.

If I remember right it is already open a little when I start it because I remember putting a little gas in it or spraying starting fluid in it to get it going. But with the back one open it no longer needs to be primed and it starts right away or as soon as I turn key. So they are both open when running.

So it is possible it might flood and backfire causing a fire? Is that what might happen? I still have not driven it yet.

Was trying to avoid getting a rebuilt one cause it is so expensive but maybe it is time to, to be safe.

The rear should never be open unless you are at full throttle. The secondaries only open at 3/4 throttle or better.

You will need to either have the carburetor rebuilt or replaced.

Oh and I am pretty sure front ones do just that, that is open more the faster you go so that is the working right , correct?

It should open fully within about two minutes.

Thanks Roy, wanted to mention, I do not know what the fuel filter in the carburetor has to do with any of this but I replaced it and when I put the hoses and air cleaner back on the front butterfly valves were open and rear closed and it started and is running good again. Could be some vacuum hoses were in wrong place and I put them back on in the right way. Strange! Anyway if it goes back to doing it again I might not need a mechanic, I might be needing a priest!
