Car wont Start After Alternator Change!

I was recently changing my Alternator and forgot to disconnect the battery..well the ground wire I presume touched the car..causeing a spark, there was also a spark and or smoke coming from front of engine down low by radiator. Smelt a bit like burned rubber i guess.. Now Car wont start, I have checked all fuses that i can think of...Not sure if fried wire or what? Don't have a ohm meter or multi meter so any answer's would be appreciated! Thanks for your time..
