On my way home from work I pulled up to a stop light and waited to turn. As soon as I was able to go my van would not accelerate I thought maybe I switched gears, but it still was in drive. I tried to apply more pressure to the gas pedal but it would accelerate. Next I hear a fluttering sound coming from under the engine block. I turned off my van and pushed to the side of the road. I turn the car on no problem turning over, but again I could not accelerate and the fluttering noise had gotten worst then before. I had to get my van towed back to my house. I thought it could be an axle problem or transmission. I just wanted to know what others thought before I spend a whole a lot of money on a problem that I could fix. Is going to be to expensive to fix?

see if check engine light is on then put in different gear ranges like first, second and third, other than drive. it cold be a transmission problem or axle broken.
