Does the starter work and crank the engine over?

You need spark, fuel and compression.

test for spark at the plugs.
Is there fuel in the carburetor?

I will assume since you are concerned about the battery that it is the starter that is not cranking over the engine. So, check if the purple wire to the starter solenoid has twelve volts when the key is turned to start.
