car stops when driving

while running at a steady speed sometimes my car nmisfires and sometimes it goes completly dead. All the panel lights go out, there is nothimg. After waiting ten minutes or so, it may start and drive again. All the wiring has been pulled for testing wiring to distributor,coil,fuel pump, and relay wires & ignition wires under steering column, finding no fault. i wonder why the panel lights go completly out?.
