car starts then dies after 3-4 seconds

My 04 santa fe 2.4L, starts then dies after 3-4 seconds, after much research from this site n others, I came to the conclusion that it was likely the CPS. Bought new one,installed,still the same problem, I don't wanna chase parts so I thought I'd post about the next likely candidate? Thanx up front for any help....
Also I guess California made it illegal to get a code reader through any loan a tool program so I don't have a code, would prefer not to spend $150 for something I'm gonna use once every 5 years, and use that money towards the problem (maybe for complaining about this stupid fricking law)

try resetting security system if no manual look online that may be the problem. Otherwise it will need to be scanned for codes to find out the problem.

There is no security system, and workin on finding a code reader, gotta know someone

I hate to tell you but all vehicles built after 1997 have security systems on them. I t won't hurt to try. if it doesn't start then scan for codes....but I don't think that is your problem.

Ok so ran a tester and came up code-p0340, bank 1, which I guess is a cam Sensor , so now I can move forward

Ok so replaced the cam sensor, started right up, drove it home. Wife took it out 2 hours later, now it's dyin at idle. She said it died when she takes off and is running rough, went out to the driveway, sure enough rough idle, and will die unless I give it has to keep runnin. Haven't tried driving it to see if it keeps running under load, basically I'm venting right now.....let the great sensor hunt continue.

scan for codes and check fuel pressure with a gauge it may be the crank sensor.auto parts rent the gauge

That was the part I changed first, to no avail. After checking the car out the next couple days, found 2 fouled spark plugs, running much better now
