Car shuts off while driving

I was driving to work work when I started hearing a ticking noise. every time I got on the gas to accelerate it acted as if it didn’t want to, then I noticed that the tachometer was going up as it’s suppose to. About six miles down the road and then it completely shut off and would not crank again. the only light on at the time was the check engine light. now all the light are on once I put the key in and act as if I’m about to start it.
