car shakes when applying brakes what could cause this problem?

When tire is on ground and I shake it the whole car moves and when tire is off ground it don't. While driving and applying a little amount of pressure to brakes it grinds and shakes. What causes this

have your brakes checked the rotors are out of round probably. from your description it sounds like it needs a brake job.
