Normally this type of issue is normally caused by mounts that are wearing out or worn out already. We need to inspect them and look for cracking and any that may have metal to metal.

Another way to check is lift the hood and have someone put the engine into drive and then back to park. See if the engine has a large amount of movement. If so this is a sign of worn mounts.

Hello, I had some look at the engine when I put it in park and drive. When I switch gears the engine moves up and down. Is this normal? Can I still drive the car out of town for holidays? Or is that taking a risk?

It is going to have some movement but if it is clunking and moving up and down just by changing the gears then I would suspect the mounts are failed.

Hi,

I had mounts checked they where stressed but not needing to be changed at the moment but guess what happened drove my car from Pennsylvania to Massachusetts and when I stopped to get gas the car wouldn't start back up. kept shutting off when it did it started shaking. I managed to get it home but at every red light it was dragged and almost cut off. now I'm stuck in a whole other state!!

This sounds like this is a fuel pressure issue. Here is a guide that will run through the basic testing:

I may be stating the obvious but it may be time to get it to a shop because it doesn't sound like it will make it home. If you do, feel free to let me know what they say if you are not confident about their diagnosis.
