My car has started running hot, but I do not see anything leaking far as I can see. It is running hot and it shut off on me. So I let it cool and it cranked right up. What could it be?

Hello, I am Danny.
Just a few questions. When have you replaced (or ever replaced) the thermostat? Have you noticed if the electric cooling fan(s) are operating?

The person I got the car from said everything is new except the water pump. I did try and see if the fans were blowing but it was night so I really could not see. I took it to a mechanic he said some leaking behind the engine block by the timing chain.

Hi there, Danny here.

It could be possible the water pump can be leaking and possibly have poor circulation. Water pumps have a drain hole built into them that will start leaking when the internal seal is worn. Have you noticed any coolant leaking where vehicle is parked? I have attached a tutorial showing a cooling system pressure test and a cooling tan tutorial. I would suggest having this done to see if it has any leaks. Most auto parts stores(Autozone, O'Reilly's, Pep Boys) have a tool loaner program for a cooling system pressure tester. Also, be sure to maintain proper Coolant level. Also, If you can have fans checked to see if properly operating.
