Hi,
How badly did it overheat? Also, with the thermostat removed, I realize there is no heat in the vehicle, but does the engine still overheat?
I asked how badly it overheated because we may have a head gasket issue as a result. When the thermostat was installed, how long did it take to overheat? Did you ever notice if there were bubbles in the coolant reservoir?
Take a look through this link. It explains common symptoms related to a faulty head gasket.
The car runs fine without thermostat. Have been on long trips with no problem. The car got so hot it shut down on her. I did an exhaust gas check on cooling system. I have not pressure checked it. Will never putting it away for winter soon.

Hi,
If it isn't overheating with the thermostat out, check to make sure the AC condenser in front of the radiator and radiator fins are clean, in good condition, and nothing is blocking them.
Also, has it overheated at highway speeds, or does it seem limited to stop and go traffic?

Within 2 miles at local driving, the temp gauge pegs hot. Am wondering if I put a 165 degree thermo will make a difference.

Hi,
It will fully open sooner than the OEM thermostat. It wouldn't hurt to try. By chance, does it overheat if you are driving at highway speeds?
