Yes, my check engine light would come off and on frequently.and sometimes it would stay off.it was due for an oil change.i spoke with another mechanic and sent him the video and some pictures and his result was that I needed a new head ,timing chain,and tensioner and guides.

Also I was told the cam and lobes were bad.

Sorry to hear this. Having 290,000 miles is still pretty impressive for an engine to have major work done. Did you heave the check engine light diagnostic codes retrieved? We would be curious to know what they are. You say the car was needing an oil change and this noise started happening so if I was to guess it could be possibly with that high of a mileage the oil pump could be weak or failing and not be providing proper oil pressure providing lubrication throughout the the engine causing the camshaft and camshaft lobes to wear due to oil starvation. If you want we would be happy to provide how-to steps on how to repair this yourself. With the pictures you've provided it looks like someone has already started the teardown and inspection process. Yes, I took the valve cover off to see if it had jumped timing, also to see if the rocker arms were loose,and to see if valves were bent. If you could provide me with the how to fix it myself I would greatly appreciate that.. I am a single mom and these things get kind of expensive you know.. thank you for all your help...
