Okay so I have a 2003 Hyundai Accent that has about 90k miles on it. Last month, my dad and i were on the freeway driving 60 and the car started shaking pretty badly and stopped after a while. we got worried and took it to a shop and they said it might be because of our transmission oil being low. so they fixed that. when we drove it after that, it was perfectly fine for a month
then, yesterday the car started to have this jerking affect just like it did before. we were driving on the freeway. but it even happened again when we were driving 30mph on a residential street. and then, it got really bad yesterday. we've drove it on a regular road and it started jerking and the check engine light started to flash while it was jerking. then both of them stopped. we stopped driving but when we started the car later that night, the check engine light went on again but this time it stayed there.
today, my dad drove it, the check engine light is still there but no shaking. and we got gas and when we started the car again, the light went off.

so im really worried, we're going to the shop tommorow and i want to know all the possible causes so maybe i can tell them what i know so far. we drive on the freeway for 15 minutes 5 times a week so im scared it will shake again and cause us get into a accident. what can be wrong? please help, thanks

hello now my problem starts with my car's check engine light. So I used my computer to read the code and it explained multiple miss-fires in cylinder four and three. So I changed all plugs, wires, coil pack, crank position sensor and cam sensor. Now it runs a little better, but still gives off the same codes? Is there anything else I should check that maybe I am missing? I did notice that oil had started filling up in the area where the plugs and wires go on cylinders I believe three and for sure four. What would this be telling me?

once a code comes up on a computer you need a scanner to erase it however it may still misfire as these are very hard to diagnose with out a professional scanner. it can be one of many things if electrical is okay then it is either a fuel issue/vacuum leak or a basic engine problem. I always suggest on these it is cheapest option is to let a professional look at it.

My 2003 hyundai accent is having problems. I have been hearing a rattling sound and now it sounds really loud when I I start it, as well as when I idle and accelerate. The check engine light came on abut a month ago, but went off on its own-now it is back on. Do you have any ideas?

First, the rattle is most likely a loose heat shield on the exhaust. Take a rubber mallot and tap on the exhaust with the engine off to see if you can duplicate the sound.

Next, as far as the check engine light, you need to have the computer scanned to identify why that is on. The computer has identified a problem and has stored it in memory. Take it to a nationally recognized parts store and have them check it for you. Most will do it for free.

Let me know what you find.

My check engine light is on, the scanner reads code 1401, means some kind of vacuum or pressure loss. When i fill up with gas, the gas pump pops as if my tank is full, sometimes while driving ill loose power and it will putt putt until it gets enough gas to take off again. i have seen other posts like this and it seems they solved their problems. How can I? What parts do i need?

I looked up that code it says diagnostic module tank leakage malfunction. From the gas pump turning off like the the tank is full sounds like the vent solenoid is sticking shut. Also for the code says no testing info available from the manu factor.Let me o some checking.

OK....could it be the fuel filler neck?

There is usually the vent hose and sometimes the vent solenoid right along side the fuel filler neck.Unless something was jambed down in the filler neck restricting the flow of fuel. But that wouldn't set a code.

A couple weeks ago, my check engine light came on. It seemed to be riding fine, and didn't blink, just stays on steadily. Then last week, my low oil light started flashing (I'm past due on an oil change, but haven't been able to afford one yet), so I added oil to it. Today, I noticed that as I accelerated, my car was making a loud noise, and this noise would go away for the most part as I got going faster. The noise would then come back as I decelerated, and would stop again when I basically came to a stop. The noise I would equate it to is a ticking/catching noise, sort of like the wheels on a bicycle make, except much louder. What could be wrong? Thanks!

The "check engine" light is an indicator for a system that monitors many electronic functions in the system, also called the "malfunction indicator lamp" (MIL). It can come on for any of hundreds of different causes from any of the systems that the computer monitors. Some are very important and can lead to further component or engine damage and some are emissions related not as serious but still a problem and need to be repaired.

Your first step is to have the computer scanned to retrieve the trouble codes that were set when the check engine light came on. Those codes will give you specific information about what the computer saw and will get you pointed in the right direction to find your problem. With a 1996 or newer and some 95 cars and you have an AutoZone or Advanced auto parts in your area, they will read them for free. Once you have these code numbers, we can be a lot more specific about what your problem may be.

The car should not be driven AT ALL with the oil light coming on until it has been verified that there is no problem with the oil pressure. As far as the check engine light, you won't know until the code is checked out.
