Can too much oil cause a blown gasket

I recently put about a quart too much oil into the car (stupidly I know) it developed a small oil leak then today the oil leak became huge. It seems to be from coming from the passenger side somewhere under the valve cover. The oil pressure warning nor the temperature warning has gone off yet, but I am sure it is on it's way to overheating the next time it is driven. Some symptoms include either blue or white smoke out the exhaust, it is hard to tell, a slightly rough start up, and, of course, the profuse amount of oil leaking out of the side of the engine. What are some possible fixes for this. Also, I recently replaced the radiator and I am not loosing coolant at all.

If you have too much oil it can cause oil to burn out the exhaust and rough running. Have you reset to oil to the proper level yet? Also, it is hard to say what is leaking oil without seeing where the oil is coming from.

I am going to be draining it today, but I thing the leak actually dropped it down to a normal level after checking the dipstick. I am going to be looking at it in a few hours to see exactly where it is coming from. I will post an update as soon as I know where.

I believe the oil is coming from the blow by and if I take the oil cap off while the car is running, I can hear air release. If I am not mistaken I think this means I have crankcase pressure. Any ideas?

Is any of that milky build up cause for concern? I know about cold water sludge, but that seems a bit much to me. Though there is none on the rocker arms or in the dipstick.

Change oil next chance you get. get it nice and hot first and be careful.

May be the combustion gases (which includes water) not being evacuated out of the crankcase via the PCV system.

As the others said, the vacuum to the PCV may be stopped up (carbon/ kinked/ old hose is sucking flat). Or even the fresh air line may be kinked/ stopped up/ or it has been plugged off. In some cases I have seen folks use a second PCV as an elbow for their fresh air, the problem doing that is the air flow is backwards and the PCV "checks" (basically it closes the second PCV and no air can flow).

Check and see if there is any blockage in the PCV, if there is excessive engine crank case blow by caused by engine that can take into plug oil leakage from there. If the oil is not milky then I would not worry so much about the milky stuff. how often do you change the oil? also, when was the last time you changed the oil?

The oil has not been changed in a while, this is my fairly new girlfriends car and I have not seen an oil change on it. Though I did take it to a mechanic and he said that the tensioner came loose and was spitting out oil onto the exhaust. There is a TSB specifically for that so I had him replace the tensioner and the seal. No more oil leak or smoke. The milkiness was just from making short trips where the engine could not heat up enough to burn away condensation in a cold very wet area. Thank you all for the replies and help!

You are welcome. like I said there can be some milkiness, but when you get it on the oil dipstick then that is really not good .

No head gasket problems. There is a TSB on the tensioner. In some models, including this one, it comes loose and lets oil out over the exhaust. It is in the shop now getting replaced.

The PCV was kinked so I replaced it. But that wasn't the main problem. There is a TSB on mini's about their tensioners loosening and causing a massive oil leak. The oil then leaks onto the exhaust. I resealed it, oil leak and smoke out the tailpipe stopped. Thank you everyone for your replys and your help!
