Okay, so I need help, so I just did all 4 VVT solenoid replacement for the code P001, crank shaft timing retarded because the mechanic said there was no connectivity going to 2 of them and the codes went away for 2 weeks. Then the car shut off in the middle of the road and popped up with the same code and now my engine sounds terrible, so I can’t drive the car. now I don’t want to take it to a mechanic because they are trying to charge me $1,500.00 for the VVT replacement and I did it myself for $500.00. I don’t really know where to go.

Any help is needed and appreciated.

Hi,

The code indicates either the timing chain has jumped on bank one, or there is a problem with the VCT (variable cam timing) system.

Since you are hearing a noise, it sounds mechanical. Do you notice a loss of power? Are there any other codes stored?

I attached the diagnostics below specific to the code. Take a look through them and let me know if you have questions. Also, you may want to remove the valve cover and inspect the bank one cams to see if anything has come apart as well as if there is any indication that the chain jumped time.

Let me know if this helps or if you have other questions

Take care,

Joe
