Camshaft adjuster

The timing belt and camshaft adjuster replacement go hand in hand on this car. below are the instruction on how to replace the actuator and timing belt. Check out the diagrams (below). Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

Hello, just to jump in. The camshaft has a variable valve timing actuator hub which is controlled by the oil control valve. See image below. The control valve uses oil pressure to adjust the timing using the solenoid. If you are low on oil, it will give you timing code faults. Also wrong viscosity oil can cause it to malfunction or lack of oil changes will cause it to fail.

When you are low on oil the solenoid will rattle and it is a pretty load rattle. The solenoid is also prone to fail. That is why when you replace the solenoid, the new gasket has an oil screen to block off any debris. If you have a timing code fault I would suspect a faulty solenoid unless you have done some major engine work where you may have mistimed the engine.
