cam position sensor ?

What sensor variance are you talking about? Camshaft sensors usually read a wheel on the end of the camshaft to give the Power-train Control Module (PCM) information on where the camshaft is in it's cycle.

I installed a new cam position sensor and was told I need to perform cam variance. now was also told it was a dealer only procedure Ford computer software.

now that I have installed new camshaft position sensor is there a procedure that needs to be performed to reset it?

No, just clear any trouble codes that have been set and you're good to go. Ford senior master technician, 27 years dealer tech.

I need to know or find a picture to where my camshaft position sensors are located. I got the P0345 code today and after every other start I get the code. Thanks!

I ran the trouble code for my truck and apparently, I need to replace the camshaft sensor. Where is it located?

It has two of them, they are on the front of both heads. The picture is the left side.

Replaced vct solenoid and cam sensor still makes deasil sound on idle and a 0012 code

there is a tsb on this for your problem the number is 14-0114 dated may 30, 2014. call a dealer and see if they will do it for free they may see pic

Truck started to run badly code said bank 2 cam retarded. put new phasers, CVT solenoids, and cam sensors, but it still runs the same and throwing same code.

Check the actual oil pressure with a mechanical gauge, you need at least 30 psi at idle that stays steady to keep the system working. Next check the oil flow to the top end, these engines like to sludge the passages to the phasers. Put a good scan tool on it and check the cam/crank timing. A bad chain or tension-er will set this code.

I replaced the sensor and the check engine light came back on. thinking that maybe I did not know left from right I replaced the other sensor, but it still came back on. is there something else that I might be able to check?

The code doesn't automatically mean the sensor itself is the issue. It can be any part of the circuit to include the wiring and PCM or even mechanical issues preventing the sensor from reading properly. It all needs to be looked into.
