Changing fuel fuel filter on 96 seville

hello, first you need to remove the fuel pump relay which is located under the hood on the drivers side ..there you will see some fuses you have to remove the cover to exspose the relays ,look inside the cover you removed and the diagram will tell you wich one is the fuel pump relay..afteryou remove the relay crank the car to use the fuel up out the fuel line (crank the car over about three times) then remove the battery cable,s jack the rear of the vehicle and support it on jack stands ...support the fuel tank with a peice of wood on to of a jack to keep from punching a hole through the tank ,,then remove (2) srcews on both fuel tank brackets then lower the fuel tank until you can disconnect the filler and air hoses on the fuel tank then lower the tank all the way to the ground ..use a hammer and a blunt object to remove the lock ring on the fuel tank and remove the sending unit carefully not to break the sending unit read the instructions that came with the new fuel pump on how it should be reconnected please use care and be patient doing this job ..i stree useing a blunt object becase a piece of small wood or a wooding handle wont spark a FIRE!!!

That was a great description of replaciing the fuel PUMP not the fuel filter. Thank you very much though I figured it out and was a lot easier than I thought. The only problem is that I don't think it fixed the problem. It would sometimes take a few (about 5 or more) seconds to turn over (it sounded like it wasn't getting gas), so I figured it was the fuel filter. After changing it I am still having the same problem. If any one has any ideas that would be great.

buy a fuel pressure tester and check the fuel pressure ,.. your problem also mihgt be a fuel injector leaking or not working at all ..i dont know what the pressure should be , but on my 1992 cadillac seville the pressure is between (40-50 pounds of pressure) another thing the next time you start the car push the acclerater pedal down and hold it while starting the car if it starts up easyer let me known ,,i,ll have some information on what to do

I have pushed on the gas and it seemed to start easier, but on one of the first times I did it, it didn't start and make a loud knocking sound from the engine (just one knock).

have the idle speed control motor checked ,..and also have the fuel pressure checked

It seems now that my driver side muffler came off (the weld broke), and when i start my car it idles funny and my dash told me to check my emissions and my brakes don't work well. I appreciate all your help.

U HAVE A BAD FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR THATS WHY UR CAR HAS A PROLONG CRANK ( LOCATED AT THE FUEL RAIL WHEN U REMOVE THE VACUM HOSE U WILL NOTICE THAT IT HAS FUEL , SHOULD NOT BE SUCKING FUEL)
