While driving to work, the car just stopped going into gear. It went into park when I stopped by just doesnt go into gear. Never had a problem before, didnt make any noise, no clunking, metal grinding, nothing. Its in the shop but they havent done anything except tell me something must be broke inside. I live in a very small town and am stumped. Any idea what it could be?

Broken pump shaft, fault with the transmission pump. Almost certainly mechanical, especially if you have no forward OR reverse gears. Was there a blowout resulting in all the fluid being expelled?

My husband "unplugged the hydraulics in the trunk and this happened the next time he drove the car. Could he have unplugged something that caused this?

There should be nothing in the trunk that would cause the vehicle not to move. To not start, maybe. If you have no movement in forward or reverse, check and verify the fluid level is full in the transmission, and then it would almost require a line pressure test. This procedure requires a pressure gauge, and someone to the likes of David Copperfield to access and connect at the test port. You could possibly remove a cooler line at the radiator(more than likely the upper line), place something to capture fluid over the port(it is going to come from radiator side), and start the vehicle to see if you have flow. If you have no flow through the cooler, you more than likely have no pressure for some reason.

The hydraulics thing, I have no idea. Does it have some aftermarket equipment installed, modifications, customization?
