1999 Cadillac Deville 32 valve Northstar engine. 47,000 miles. Today my caddy would not start. Completely dead. No sound. It had not been started for 2-3 weeks, so I suspected a dead battery. I left it sitting in the garage and drove my other vehicle for the day. When I returned home, the trunk and the fuel door were open. I don't see how a dead battery would cause this! Any ideas as to the problem? Tomorrow I will charge the battery and see if I can get it running. I am a single lady, and do not know anything about automobiles. Please help.

My cad did the same thing. The trunk opened and the gas cap and would not start. I had a loose battery clamp. I cleaned and tightened the posts and cables about a year and a half ago and it still works well.
