how to step by step do a replacement of a blown head gasket and it is worth it to do my own repair? i got an estimate from an auto body shop from a dealership that sells cadillac and they quoted me 4500.00 usd. is this a realistic price or are they over charging me ?

yes it is worth it, and that is a resonable price, sadly, for a headgasket repair.

i would recommend this if you are not good at mechanics or have no knowledge of the steps i will tell you.

first step is to disconnect and mark every single wire, hose and part.

then take off the valve covers, and put the bolts back in when the valve covers come off as some are different sizes.

next find the bolts that hold the heads on and simply remove them while putting the bolts back in so you do not forget where the go and then remove the old gasket and clean all the mating surfaces, installation is the reverse.

it is a vary big job, that is a low price to me, the head bolts are the prob, due to overheating the threads pull out inwhich you will have to heli coil 20 head bolts, the heads will need to be ck for cracks, the engine has to come out, it drops out the bottom of the car, its a 24 hr job or a little more
