the ac temp is 62degrees. No other problems. Can I refill the AC myself?

Hi, If You Do not UnderStand automobile Ac Systems ,Please Do Not Try To Fill It Up , Many People Have Been Serious Injured. It's Not worth Hurting Yourself.Take It To a mechanic.

Hi prairiedoc. Welcome to the forum. Edward.S is right. Escaping refrigerant will freeze eyeballs and cause frostbite. But beyond the extensive safety precautions taken by professionals, there is no way to know how much charge is still in a GM car. The only way to fill the system properly is to completely recover the remaining refrigerant, then pump in the correct measured amount as listed on the sticker under the hood. Even using gauges to measure system pressures is not accurate. Fords and Chryslers use sight glasses to tell when the system is full, but even those are only accurate on Chryslers.

Duct temperatures in the high 40 degree range is common but 62 degrees is not that bad. Automotive AC systems are only designed to lower air temperature 20 degrees because they have to handle a huge volume of air, unlike your home refrigerator. The real comfort comes from removing the humidity.
