Sometimes when I start my car, I hear a thumping sound coming from the engine compartment (driver side). It usually goes away after a few seconds but today it kept thumping until I turned off the engine, and restarted it.

Sometimes when I am driving and I slow down I will hear and feel "chattering" from the engine compartment. My car has automatic transmission, but it sounds and feels like a clutch slipping or something.

Sometimes when I am driving and slow down (the "chattering" may or may not happen) the transmission disengages the wheels. So after slowing down to make a turn or something, I press the gas to speed up again and the engine just revs without turning the wheels. So I have to let go of the gas, then press it again for it to engage.

There are no error codes related to this problem.

I had read the other post. It is possible that this is a po39 or a eo39 codes that you read?

No, it is definitely IO39.
Also, is the transmission supposed to get hot?
I drove like 5 miles and then touched the transmission. It was really hot.

I'll tell you what I think. I think the code is related to the transmission. Your symptoms fit it to well. I don't know the code reasoning for the prefix other than the "I" stands for instrument code or some such of thing. It's a long drawn out diagnosis, but is very intimate with the torque converter. I can send you all 5 of the procedures if you like.

This is the first of 5. IF you look at the wiring diagram, the brake pedal operates the TCC switch, and that fits inot the changes you get when you press the pedal. The tcc should set codes...or the transmission in general should, and yours isn't. But the symptoms fit a code that would fit into this. I would start working through this code. IF you want, I'll email the steps to you. It shure sounds like an engagement problem.
