2003 Cadillac CTS clutch not operating

The car starts but it will not shift into gear I was told to check clutch wire.

What does it do when attempting to shift? Does the clutch pedal have any resistance, does it go to the floor and not come up? Does the transmission grind when attempting to go into a gear?
