My Catera began to die after running for anywhere from several minutes to an hour. After this happened a few times over a period of about a week, the failure happened several times within an hour or two, causing me to take it to a repair shop where it was diagnosed as a fuel pump failure.
I paid $1,000 for a new pump, strainer, relay, and wiring adaptors to be installed. After the repair, I picked the car up and only managed to drive less than 5 miles before the car stopped again and began to exhibit the same symptoms - run for a few minutes then stop again.
The service shop towed the car back and now tells me the problem is the crank position sensor has failed and is completely independent of the fuel pump failure - just a coincidence of the timing and symptom. What's up?

I would say that it wasnt the pump at all, should have taken it to the dealer, it shows that they didnt test drive it at all, to make sure it was ok. I would say to them that you paid them to fix the car and it wasnt fixed

Tell the shop service manager that his eyes are brown or they should be as he’s full of it.

Its obvious that dealership is a “keep putting parts on until the problem is fixed” shop.

Its simple economics, the more they install the more they make.

Yes some times its difficult to correctly identify the problem but in this case to say the two items are not related to each other is BS and they really don’t know what is causing the problem. Watch they replace the crank sensor and it doesn't fix your problem but they will say they fixed the crank sensor problem but by magic another "unrelated" item will be the cause of your new current problem even though it is the same symptoms as your first.
