1998 Cadillac Catera 6 cyl Automatic 121000 miles

i have a 1998 cadillac catera, the ac heater controls are not working right. i can turn the defrost on, and i can turn the defrost up and down but thats it. do you know what the problem might be?

Does the displays change indicating the requests, and it just stays in defrost mode, or the display is stuck on defrost?
