1997 Cadillac Catera 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

i just bought a catera from a friend which told me that he was told it had a blown head gasket b/c it is gettin oil in the coolant and it runs hot after a short period of time to be honest i didnt even make it home befor it got hot i had to have it towed and i was wondering if the oil cooler is the only reason that it would be gettin oil in the coolant b/c none is gettin in the engine

If oil is in the coolant then coolant is in the engine. You may not detect it but it's there. The oil cooler is a coil that runs through the radiator core. If it fails then oil and coolant will mix.
A blown head gasket will also mix coolant and oil, depending on where it fails. However, the engine will most likely run very rough, especially when it warms up. Do a compression test to determine if the head gasket indeed failed.

most of the time oil in coolant is the oil cooler it is located between the heads under the intake if there is a lot of oil in the coolant that will also make it over heat.
