Burning oil and intermitten Smoking out exhaust

I assume you are seeing blue smoke which would be oil. If this is the case then you have one of two issues most likely. First the rings are worn and are allowing oil into the cylinders. The other possible cause is the valve guides are allowing oil in.

I would suggest starting with a compression check and seeing if you have a low compression issue. If you do then we can do a leakage check but most likely this will be rings.

Unfortunately this is common on older engines. If you want to nurse this along, I would just check the oil every time you get gas and make sure it stays topped off. Eventually you will need to take more serious action like changing plugs and injectors and eventually the engine will fail but that is long down the road.

Thank you for your information. I figured it was the rings. My motor is actually in very good condition so once it warms up in Montana I'll have to take care of that. You confirmed my suspicions.
